To bring down pesky flying insects, use a spray water bottle. 
Aim it above where they are flying, and spray all around where they are. They can’t fly with wet wings. They can outrun anything the size of a usual fly swatter, 
but it’s harder to get through a wide cloud of liquid. 
And because it’s only water, any surface it falls on usually won’t be damaged. Voila!
